Hollywood North, filming in the Metro Vancouver area, is booming at the moment. Record setting productions are everywhere – and the summer filming season has only just begun. X-Files is back for at least 6 new episodes, the first in 13 years, and Star Trek 3, Tron and another Planet of the Apes all begin shooting soon. This follows on the heals of Tomorrowland (with George Clooney), Fifty Shades of Grey and Age of Adeline – all of which were filmed here recently.

Director Steven Spielberg is filming BFG, Roald Dahl’s Big Friendly Giant, Vancouver actor Ryan Reynolds is staring in Deadpool, and there are many TV series such as Once Upon A Time, Motive, The Flash, The Arrow, Cedar Cove, Supernatural and iZombie that call Vancouver home.

The boom is in part because of the current low Canadian dollar, tax breaks, our great film crews, we’re in the same time zone as Los Angeles and we’re only a 2 or 3 hour flight from there. Speaking of the crews, an estimated 35,000 people work in the film sector here in BC.
